New restaurant shows love for neighbours

Wednesday 08 February 2023

A restaurant which recently opened on the former Shinzo site has become a real 'treasure' to local charities, after providing hot meals and raising donations for Jersey's homeless community.

Trésor, which translates to ‘treasure’ in French, opened its doors in St. Aubin's at the end of last year and has already hosted a number of charity-focussed initiatives.

Trésor is headed up by business partners, Dorin Alexandru Milosescu (Alex) and Vasile Cosmin Popa (Cosmin), who boast a wealth of hospitality experience.

Speaking to Express before opening in December, Alex explained that the duo’s dream for Trésor is to offer “high quality food which is affordable for everybody”.

Throughout the festive period, the Trésor team cooked and delivered Christmas meals entirely free of charge to those in need, including residents of Sanctuary Trust, which is Express and Connect Magazine's chosen charity for 2023.

The restaurant is also now donating a percentage of weekday lunchtime revenues to local charity, Love Thy Neighbour which helps the long term homeless, the poor and those in need.

Catriona Fern, CEO of Love Thy Neighbour Jersey, described the gesture as a "wonderfully altruistic and thoughtful initiative from this fantastic new restaurant in the village, especially at a time when hospitality is facing such a difficult and challenging time".

She explained: "As a small local charity that is wholly dependent upon public donations, we are so extremely grateful to our village neighbour, Tresor, for such incredible kindness and wonderful support, especially when hospitality business are facing such challenging times.

"That a relatively new enterprise has such an altruistic approach is truly heart-warming to see. Our charity supports the long term homeless, the poor and those in need in our community and every penny raised helps change the lives of others for the better.

"We would hope that Tresor will be fully supported and appreciated for such a generous and thoughtful initiative... a beautiful example of extending love to their neighbours!"
