Update: Man dies following Jersey explosion

Monday 25 September 2017

Jersey Police have confirmed that a 40-year-old man who was severely burnt in an explosion over the weekend has died from his injuries.

He's been named as Michal Juzef Kmuk. The Police say they aren't treating the explosion as suspicious, and the Fire Service are now investigating the cause.

It happened at a property in St Clement in the early hours of Saturday 23 September.

Mr Kmuk was airlifted to the Chelsea and Westminster Burns Unit on Saturday afternoon, but he died from his injuries just before 0500 today.

One other person was also treated at A&E following the explosion, but was not admitted to hospital - a third person was treated for the effects of inhaling smoke.

Speaking soon after the incident, the Fire Service described what they found: “...the fire was out on arrival but there was extensive damage to the property. The roof tiles had been blown off and windows had been blown out by the pressure wave of the explosion and also internally there was extensive damage.”

The Police say that Health and Safety officers are also now involved in the investigation, along with the Fire Service.
