Arrest after van driver 'attacked through window'

A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of punching a van driver through the open window of his vehicle.

Police said the attack happened on Tuesday (3 December) at the car park entrance of Grand Marché in St. Helier.

Detailing the attack in an appeal for more information, they said: "At about 13:45 a man in his 40s driving a VW transporter van was stopped at the entrance to the Grand Marche car park as he let pedestrians cross, when he was assaulted in his vehicle.

"A man approached the van from behind and hit it with his hands and when the driver spoke to the man about this he was punched in the face, through the open window."

The driver was reported to have suffered damage to his teeth as a result.

The 49-year-old was arrested on suspicion of grave and criminal assault but has since been arrested on police bail.

Police now want to hear from witnesses or those with CCTV or dashcam footage. Anyone with information is urged to call 612612 or make an anonymous report via the Crimestoppers website.
