The Fire and Ambulance Combined Control Centre received a call at 1.01pm today stating that an accident had led to a car being overturned onto its roof in St Brelade, with the occupant trapped inside.

One rescue unit and a fire engine were immediately dispatched with six firefighters in attendance.

Once on scene, the vehicle involved was quickly stabilised, whilst access was made through the rear of the vehicle by a firefighter, who assisted the casualty to safety.

The vehicle was then winched back onto its wheels using the winch from the rescue unit, enabling the road to be re-opened.

Just after 2pm the combined control centre received another call stating that one vehicle had been involved in a road traffic collision, with the occupant trapped inside on New St Johns Road, St Helier.

A fire engine and Rescue Unit with six firefighters was again mobilised from Rouge Bouillon headquarters to the accident.

On arrival of the emergency services it was found that one female casualty was still in their vehicle suffering from leg and neck pain.

States Police immediately cordoned off the area while Firefighters and paramedics worked together using stabilisation and hydraulic cutting equipment to extricate the female passenger.

Watch Commander Richard Ryan said: “I would urge drivers to take care and adapt their driving to the weather, as rain can quickly create dangerous driving conditions.”

In both incidents the occupants of the vehicles were transferred to hospital by awaiting ambulances and the incidents were handed over to States Police for further investigation.
