Jersey's first Italian festival - Viva Italia - in 20 years is due to launch this Spring.

The Jersey Association of Italian Culture (JAIC) together with Jersey Gas will be hosting the two-day Italian culture and food festival at People’s Park on 13-14 May.

Gino D’Acampo, arguably the UK’s favourite Italian chef, will be attending the festival.

The TV personality is a regular feature on ITV's show This Morning:

He will open the event and be conducting cooking demonstrations over the course of the weekend.

In addition to being a foodie affair, Islanders can expect Italian vehicles, Polar Auto Italia and Ferrari, Vespa and Piaggio to feature at the event along with Italian bike specialist Wilier.

Recognising that no Italian festival would be complete without a celebration of the Italian Fashion industry, organisers of the festival have secured Ivana Pantaleo, an Italian fashion designer, to host a fashion show involving secondary school students and local fashion retailers.

The festival will also embrace Italy’s connection to film.  Ian Haydn Smith, an expert on the films of the Italian Golden age, will be talking and a local film-producer with Italian heritage will be premiering their documentary on Italian families in Jersey.

Completing the line-up for the weekend is numerous musical performances. Islanders can expect to be entertained by a professional barber quartet, professional pianist, a professional aria singer and an Italian jazz band.

People wanting to get involved in 'Viva Italia' festival can email the JAIC or get in touch with the organisers through the Facebook page. The festival is also being supported by Jersey Gas and iPop Digital.
