Don your Santa hat and get running...solo!

Saturday 19 December 2020

The large-scale annual Santa Run might not be able to take place this year, but local runners are still being urged to don their hats and get jogging wherever they are to raise money to help homeless people.

For the past three years, the runners have sped from town to St. Aubins wearing tinsel, Santa suits and all sorts of festive hats as part of @jersey.runclub's big Christmas social event.

@jersey.runclub are determined to still find a way to celebrate and so, this year, they are asking anyone who wants to get involved to donate the price of their usual ticket (£10) to their JustGiving page.

Participants must then complete a 5k run, walk, swim or cycle before 28 December whilst wearing "some manner of Christmas-themed headgear!"

As the run can't go ahead en masse, those that really want to feel the community spirit are being invited to do a run - from wherever they are - at 09:00 this morning.

Children who wish to partake are invited to adjust the distance and donation as they feel necessary.

All of the money raised on @jersey.runclub's JustGiving page will be going to Shelter Trust Jersey, a charity which provides accommodation and support services for the homeless community in Jersey.

Participants are also being invited post pictures of their virtual Santa Hat Run on Instagram and tag @jersey.runclub.

For existing members of @jersey.runclub, there are prizes available for those who submit a photo of themselves taking part on Instagram, Strava or via email.

Team members should include at least their first name on the donation to keep a record of who has taken part.
