VOTE: Who will YOU crown TMF Lockdown Hero?

A 'genuine Jersey' mum, a mask-maker extraordinaire and a hairdresser turned food bank champ… who will YOU crown the ultimate community hero of lockdown?

The TMF Lockdown Hero Awards were launched by TMF Group in partnership with Bailiwick Express to say "thank you" to the heroes of the health crisis and celebrate the many local acts of kindness that have kept the island going at a difficult time.

Nominations have flooded in since the awards were launched, and now a panel has whittled all the stories of “ordinary people during extraordinary things” down to a shortlist of just three entries.

Now islanders are being asked to vote below to decide who should be crowned the top TMF Lockdown Hero, winning a cash prize of £500.

But first, a quick recap of the finalists…

From hairdresser… to food bank champ

Finding himself out of work when his salon had to close, Dominic Basilio refused to feel dejected - instead, he sprung into action for the community.

For around three months, he has been packing thousands of bags for local families at the Salvation Army’s food bank - many of which including a personal touch.

Laundry bag and mask-maker extraordinaire

Inspired by her frontline family members, nimble-fingered Karen Spurr taught herself how to sew cloth masks, going on to make hundreds for schools - including special ones to assist with lipreading.

She also created dozens of laundry bags for hospital staff to securely store their uniforms and prevent the spread of infection.

Michaela Harrison-Gray, Director, Head of Trusts and Corporate at TMF Jersey, said: “All of those nominated stepped up to help others in their community during this challenging and often distressing period. There were many examples of kindness, selflessness and innovation, with ordinary people doing extraordinary things to help those in need or keep people’s spirits up."
