230 entries, eight primary schools...the competition to name Jersey's newest football team's mascot has concluded, and the name is...

Beany!

Despite close competition from ‘Toro Toro’, ‘Billy’, ‘Bruno’ and even ‘Sam’, 'Beany' was the top choice for Jersey Bulls' new mascot.

The team's Commercial Manager and Director Ian Horswell was pleased with the results, describing the shortlisting experience as “a really fun exercise”.

“It’s clear Jersey’s primary school children have a great sense of humour," he said. “We believe Beany is a great suggestion. It’s a nod to our local heritage and a great conversation starter for visitors coming to Jersey to watch their teams play ours."

Alfie Morin (10) from Mont Nicolle School chose the winning name. He received a VIP experience at the Bulls' first home game of the 2019 season on Saturday against Ash United, which the new team comfortably won in a 3-0 victory.

The goalscoring was started by Fraser Barlow, who was followed by Karl Hinds and Harry Cardwell.

Jersey Bulls' next fixture will be an away game on 14 August against Deporttivo Galicia, followed by another match played away on 17 August against Godalming Town.

On 25 August, they'll be back in Springfield to play Fleet Spurs.

The Jersey Bulls were only recently founded in September of last year, announced Gary Freeman as Head Coach in January 2019 and launched the competition to name their mascot just last month.
