She’s worked across the globe with the likes of Beyoncé, Sade, Annie Lennox and Gwen Stefani, but now one renowned music video director’s career has seen her collaborate with an up-and-coming Aussie songstress… on the little island of Alderney.
Grammy-winning Sophie Muller touched down on the northernmost Channel Island late last year to shoot with CLOVES, a 21-year-old singer-songwriter who rose to prominence on The Voice Australia.
The 56-year-old director is usually known for her moody videos featuring singers or bands inside dim or isolated rooms.
Released on Friday, her latest video for single ‘Bring The House Down’ stays true to that style – but with an island twist.
VIDEO: The video, which was shot in Alderney during winter 2017.
Most of the video was filmed in Clonque, a Victorian Fort at the North West of the island, which features a mixture of 19th century stonework and concrete because it was refortified by occupying German forces during the Second World War.
Throughout the video, CLOVES – whose real name is Kaity Dunstan – croons about a lacklustre relationship as she stares at Alderney’s bays through windows, later walking them at sunset.
The expressive video later builds to a point where she can be spotted running down the island’s breakwater.

In an interview with Harpers Bazaar, she said that Alderney was the perfect location for bringing out the emotional qualities of the song.
"It's about being in an environment I don't feel myself in or belong in, and the frustration that surrounds that entrapment and emotion, trying to escape from it," she commented.
CLOVES hopes this latest record will help to build on the success she’s so far enjoyed, which has seen her compared to Lana del Rey, Adele and Birdy.
Video: Sophie Muller was the director behind Shakira's famous tune, 'Hips Don't Lie'.
For Sophie Muller, the video is another credit in a portfolio spanning almost four decades. Her career saw her work closely with Eurythmics throughout the 80s, and take on bands as diverse as No Doubt, The Cure, Weezer and Blur in the 90s.
From 2000 onwards, she worked with an even more diverse assortment of musicians, including Nelly Furtado, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Radiohead, Coldplay, Pink, Dido, the Killers, Maroon 5, Shakira and Kylie Minogue.
The pair’s trip to the island was quite a coup for Visit Alderney, who shared their delight with Express at their decision to shoot there.

“Since Cloves and the team visited the island earlier this winter we have been very excited to see her new music video. It certainly did not disappoint; the stunning footage shows Alderney in such spectacular way as a backdrop to the very talented artist Cloves," a spokesperson said.
They added: “It is a truly brilliant advert for our beautiful island and its fascinating history, just shows how captivating Alderney can be. All our thanks to Cloves and her team for choosing Alderney."
