The supporter of a local homelessness charity has created and performed a special song which aims to highlight that there is no "pre-described person that you expect to be homeless".

Local musician Vini Jones' wrote his song, 'I've still got a life', in honour of the Sanctuary Trust's annual 'Sleep Out' fundraising event.

The tune aims to encapsulate some of the difficult circumstances and scenarios that homeless people from all walks of life can face, as well as the impact on their families.

Sanctuary Trust – which provides accommodation and support to men who have reached a crisis in their lives – held this year's 'Sleep Out' fundraising event over the weekend.

The overnight event saw record numbers of islanders abandon the comfort of their homes for a night sleeping rough in Pier Road car park to raise funds and awareness for the charity.

Local guitarist Vini – who is also known for his own charitable work with the Grace Trust – was providing musical entertainment on the night and performed a song he wrote especially for the occasion.

Speaking to Express afterwards, Vini joked: "I started playing guitar when I was about 17, because I thought I would look so cool walking down the street carrying a guitar case."

He explained that he wanted 'I've still got a life' to highlight that there is no "pre-described person that you expect to be homeless".

Vini continued: "It can be somebody in your family, somebody from your work, somebody who once had a position or still has a trade."

He added: "It's great to be able [to perform the song] and I've never seen this many people here, this is brilliant."
