Striking a chord will take on a different meaning for one student tech champion if they take the top prize at the inaugural Jersey TechAwards.

Taking place on Thursday 18 October, the award ceremony aims to celebrate the island’s tech talent across the generations.

On the night, a local student will be crowned Technology Student of the Year – and there’s an unusual prize that awaits them.

The winner and two friends or family members will be invited to Virtex Studios to battle in virtual reality game ‘Beat Saber’, which challenges players to rhythmically slash blocks representing musical beats.

Snap.je, meanwhile, will be on hand to record their day in a video.

Snap.je’s Tom Le Sueur commented: “Having tried it for myself, I know the winner will love Beat Saber which sees players donning virtual sabers for a game that’s a mash up between Guitar Hero and Fruit Ninja. Now that’s a prize!”

There are just a few days left for students to nominate themselves or their peers, with the closing date set for this Thursday.

Digital Jersey CEO Tony Moretta commented: “We keep banging the drum for digital skills in this Island and celebrating student successes should be at the heart of the Jersey TechAwards. In schools, colleges, clubs, and homes, there’s a tremendous amount of work being done by students - our workforce of tomorrow.”
