We need to talk about taxis

Islanders have just a couple more days to say how they think the taxi system in Jersey should be changed.

The Transport Minister is proposing to allow more taxis onto the road, as well as scrapping the two different types of taxi, rank and private hire, and bringing in what's described as a "harmonised" system for fares and conditions. Those ideas are currently open for public comments, with a deadline of the end of this month.

Tristen Dodd, Director of Transport for TTS said: “We are pleased with the quality and detail of the responses received from the industry, and I would like to encourage anyone with an interest in the subject to respond to the consultation to allow their views to be heard by the minister.”

The Taxi Regulatory Reform – Recommendations were first published in December 2013. As well as creating just one type of taxi, with standard fares, TTS says that they will improve quality standards and increase the number of taxi licenses.
