Great weather coming (for ducks)

Friday 29 May 2015

It’s turned out to be a hotter half term than forecasters predicted but it’s cooling down for the weekend with more rain on its way.

The temperature has dropped to 16, a few below average for this time of the year and Jersey Met say the downpours due later today and on Sunday will be more welcome news to gardeners and farmers.

Jersey Met’s Peter Munns said: “We had a very nice day on Wednesday and the day before, 19.5 on Tuesday, and 19.6 on Wednesday – a little above average but not a huge amount.

"But we’re into a slightly more unsettled and cooler regime, a front has gone through, introduced some slightly cooler air, and another front is coming bringing showery rain.

"A benign day for Saturday, I think it’s going to be more cloudy. Later on Saturday there's a nasty looking low running across England and Scotland, so it will be quite a wet day for Sunday but it will make the gardeners and farmers happy.”

Those taking part in Cancer Research's Race for Life on Sunday should probably take along some waterproofs. Over 1,000 women are expected to put in some miles walking to St Aubin and it's likely to be a bit wet and windy.

Peter said: “I think they can expect some rather breezy conditions along the front, they will feel the wind, and it will be raining on and off, it shouldn’t be torrential but they’ll know about it.”

The school run could be a blustery and wet one on Monday with showers forecast and the wind likely to pick up to a strong force 6 or even a 7.
