The third annual C5 Cycle Challenge sets off today and promises to be “bigger and better than ever.”
The organisation has planned a 50km and a 100km ‘around-the-Island’ route- both aiming to challenge the cycling skills of both recreational and elite riders.
The first cyclists set off from the Radisson Blu Hotel this morning at 9:00 and will be riding through the day to raise money for the Jersey Stroke Association, in memory of the Assistant Director of Customs and Immigration who died in 2015, Neil Hussey.
Rob Leader, Group Managing Director of C5 Alliance, commented: “I strongly encourage members of the Jersey public to test themselves by getting involved in the 2017 C5 Cycle Challenge, while also helping to raise donations towards a great cause. Our past events have been a fun day out for cyclists of any ability, and this year promises to be even bigger and better than ever.
“I’d like to personally thank the local businesses that have come together to help us realise the event. Several members of C5 Alliance are taking a hands-on approach to their fundraising by taking part in activities like bag packing.
“Other members of the team, including myself, will be taking part in the 100km challenge. Aonghus Fraser, David Edge, Gary Stewart, Andy Delaney, Martin Delap, Ben Symonds Matt Parker and myself will be tackling the 174km Marmotte Granfondo Alpes cycle race on 2nd July, for which the C5 Cycle Challenge will be a fantastic warm-up.”
Several local businesses have collaborated to help C5 Alliance run the 2017 C5 Cycle Challenge, including Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, which is offering its facilities for C5’s food and drink reception at the end of the challenge. SandPiperCI has also donated refreshments on the day, and Signtech have provided signage and posters to promote the event at a reduced charity rate.
