READER LETTER: “I wish all the team at the Mayfair a fond farewell”

Monday 25 October 2021

As the Mayfair Hotel gets ready to close its doors, one islander has shared their thanks to the hotel for their support for charity events over the years.

Swimming teacher Nicky Holgate-Smith, who set up Enjoy2Swim at the hotel nearly a decade ago, and used the Mayfair’s facilities for various fundraising events, had this to say…

Dear Editor,

I was hoping you would enable me to say thank you and farewell to the Management and staff at the Mayfair Hotel.

Thanks to General Manager Stevie Webb and Health Club Manager Andy Coleman, I was able to set up my bespoke swim School Enjoy2swim in 2012 at the health club.

Every year, I created and designed with their support a Christmas party for all my budding swimmers. We did an ‘under the sea’ theme and we did a Frozen party.

At the parties, we held raffles in support of local charities, such as Philip’s Footprints and Guide Dogs for the Blind Jersey, where Jenny Stafford with her guide dog Pasha were guests of honour.

Jenny learnt to swim with me and together we produced a guide dog calendar, which went on sale to raise money for the charity.

As part of my 40th birthday celebrations, I did bucket list challenges, which you kindly published for me on your website.

One of the challenges was a 24-hour triathlon, which I did with a group of friends and colleagues in the health club. All the money went to Philip’s Footprints.

I am so proud to have worked at the Mayfair Hotel Health Club and because of them and our local community I love the job I do helping Children and Adults to swim.

I wish all the team at the Mayfair a fond farewell and would to thank them  for all they have done for me.
