I heard our previous Chief Minister, Mr Terry Le Sueur, talk recently on the subject of assisted dying.
He made the comment that “the law is not about individuals..it is about society”. What an extraordinary thing to say.
Law (in a democracy) is there precisely for individuals, to give protections and rights.
Society cannot experience unimaginable pain and suffering - an individual can. Society cannot be given control, choice and dignity at the end of its life - an individual can.
