Hundreds of islanders braved the wind and rain yesterday to take part in the Jersey Marathon.

French distance runner Guillaume Ruel pulled off the Channel Islands marathon double after claiming victory in two hours and 23 minutes – adding to his win at the Guernsey Marathon this April.

It was his third time running the distance in Jersey – and he had previously placed second and third.

Runners-up in the male category were Ollie Garrod and James Oliver.

Dawn Godwin from the UK won the female category in three hours and four minutes, followed by Natalie Hodge and Vikki Stafford.

Relay teams of two and five also took on the conditions, and youngsters tackled the 'Marathon Mile' race – a blisteringly fast sprint through the heart of town.

In a post on social media, organisers congratulated all the "amazing" runners who took on any of the challenges.

"You should all be immensely proud of your achievements," they said, adding: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our dedicated volunteers who very kindly donated their time to help us operate a safe and friendly event; we could not operate without them."

Overall participant numbers have continued to rise year on year, with 2024 being the biggest Jersey Marathon yet.
