The Cardiac Action Group has achieved a 25% increase in public access defibrillators across Guernsey since 2022, bringing the total up to 150.

There’s also good news when it comes to the amount of people taking on life saving education, as the charity has also seen a substantial rise in volunteer guardians.

There are now 380 guardians, who each work to maintain these life-saving devices.

20 lives have been saved since 2018 thanks to the work of the charity and the public access defibrillators with support from the hugely generous community donating £400,000 in that time.

The Cardiac Action Group now plans to further enhance its operations through a partnership with St John Ambulance for training, improved administrative support with a new part-time manager, updated guardian resources, and a new QR code for easy donations.

Cardiac Action Group Patron Rick Denton (pictured above) said the charity’s ongoing success was celebrated at a recent event where they also discussed its future plans.

“Our gathering was rightly focused on the efforts of our local volunteer guardians who invest time in maintaining the equipment that saves lives when a cardiac arrest happens.

“We can trace more than 20 people who have been saved by the successful use of the public access defibrillators. The heroes and heroines behind this success are the guardians who manage the PAD sites.”
