Ongoing conflicts around Sark’s electricity supply are risking tens of homes being cut off from the island’s grid.

The owner of Sark Electricity Limited has been served notice to remove equipment from land in the island. That will mean the disconnection of a number of local residents from the grid he warns.

Alan Witney-Price said he has tried to negotiate with the landowner but they’ve insisted the company removes all equipment.

He warned this will mean 51 homes – around 15% of properties in Sark – will be cut off.

He also warned further properties could be impacted because other equipment could also be affected.

Express understands the issue relates to an historic lack of legally agreed wayleaves.

Meanwhile, Chief Pleas has made further legal moves in its plans to compulsory purchase SEL, against Mr Witney-Price’s wishes.

He says a third party remains an interested buyer and that the company is worth much more than the £500,000 that Chief Pleas says it is.

Sark’s government recently recommended Begbies Traynor as an independent valuer to decide what the purchase price should be, but it is understood that SEL has not accepted that as Chief Pleas has applied to the Court of the Seneschal to appoint a valuer instead.

A hearing date has not yet been confirmed.
