Amco Giffin are a specialist UK contractor who were brought in to repair the runway in July. Several delays in supplying equipment and materials to the island saw the project come to a halt, however work will restart this evening and continue until 29 September.

The refurbishments will keep Alderney’s runway ticking over until a decision is made about the feasibility of extending it. 

A feasibility study is currently underway, with the results of it expected in the coming months.

If it’s deemed possible, the runway could be extended to allow Aurigny’s ATRs to land. This would allow Aurigny to drop its Dorniers and simplify the fleet, in a bid to cut costs and return to break-even by 2023.

The work will take place during the evening to avoid disrupting flights in and out of the island, and is being undertaken by Guernsey Ports.
