Each book on the recently announced shortlist was nominated by local students in Years Five, Six and Seven.

The list was then whittled down by a judging panel of librarians.

The four shortlisted books are:

  • Storm Hound by Claire Fayers
  • Check Mates by Stewart Foster
  • Malamander by Thomas Taylor
  • The Day I Was Erased by Lisa Thompson

Children across the islands now have the chance to take part in school book groups to discuss the shortlisted titles, before picking their favourite and voting for it online.

Anyone aged between 9 and 12 can take part and copies of the shortlisted books are available to be borrowed from the Guille-Alles Library.

“We received so many fantastic nominations that picking just four was a real challenge, but ultimately we’re left with a shortlist of exceptional and engaging books with plenty of variety,” said Schools’ Library Assistant, Jodie Hearn. “There’s something for every child to enjoy.”

All votes must be in by Friday 17 July.

The winner will be announced at a special ceremony at the Guille-Alles Library in September.

The Channel Islands Children’s Book Award ran for the first time in 2019, with Katherine Rundell’s book ‘The Explorer’ taking the winning title.
