This came after months of promotion with a previous soft launch of the strategy before the ‘pay as you throw’ stickers became mandatory from 3 February.

However, people living in areas around Vauvert and Trinity Square were among the first to find fault with the new scheme as they left home this morning, to be greeted by the site of piles of uncollected rubbish.
Many people took to social media to complain about the number of black bags still lying on the roadside, most marked with a red sticker explaining why it was not collected.

The States recycling team have always maintained that the island’s rubbish collectors would leave any bags where they are if people don’t follow the rules correctly.
That includes putting a specific sticker on your black bag for either 90l or 50l.
Anyone who hasn’t had their rubbish taken away can deliver it to Longue Hougue where you’ll have to pay the ‘pay as you throw’ charge directly.
