Alderney has welcomed more people today with extra flights from Guernsey and the UK and a Manche Iles Express service from France bringing in visitors for Cavalcade Day.

Alderney Week got underway over the weekend, with today’s Bank Holiday events expected to bring hundreds of people together at the Butes where numerous activities and attractions are being staged.

Visitors on a day trip aboard the Manche Isles Express are expected to leave the island around 18:00.

More sea faring visitors are due in this week too, with the Hebridean Princess cruise liner, carrying 75 passengers, due in on Wednesday evening, before leaving on Thursday and returning on Saturday with more visitors.

These visitors, on top of those travelling with Aurigny and Alderney Ferry Services Ltd and other carriers are bolstering the numbers during the annual Alderney Week celebrations which is seen as the largest carnival in the Channel Islands.

With so many events taking place and additional people in Alderney for the week, a number of road closures have been announced.

These are all listed at alderney.gov.gg.

“Please drive carefully, use caution and be patient when driving in areas where events may
be taking place and cars are parked,” said a spokesperson for the States.

Rubbish collections are continuing as normal today, despite the Bank Holiday, with the Impot also open until 13:00.

“Please help to keep Alderney clean and refrain from littering”, is the message from the States during Alderney Week.
