Professor Beal said she was “very proud” to have served the Bailiwick, during which time she successfully delivered the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s improvement plan.
She also launched the ‘Care Values Framework’ in 2016: a four-year plan, which has led to the improvement of health and social care outcomes for patients and service users, as well as supporting professionals in their roles.

Commenting at the time of her resignation, she said: “I know this is a difficult time, and I have not taken this decision lightly. I wish HSC well in the future, and am thinking of everyone whilst they courageously deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.”
A spokesperson for HSC confirmed that Professor Beal’s responsibilities had been absorbed by other members of staff.
“In terms of cover, HSC can confirm that Governance will be covered by the Medical Director [Dr Peter Rabey] and the Chief Nurse elements of the role will be undertaken in the short term by the Heads of Service that are Registered Nurses.
The spokesperson said a decision had not yet been made about future arrangements.
“No decision has been made as regards the successor arrangements to the recently retired Chief Nurse,” they said. “The cover arrangements previously stated continue whilst dialogue continues internally and with the RCN in respect of the options and opportunities for the Bailiwick.”
