Following the announcement that Cimandis is winding up the Jersey branch of it’s business, Express can confirm that the Guernsey branch of the business has to vacate its premises by Christmas Eve.

The food wholesale retailer has not responded to requests for comment this week, beyond saying that its Guernsey, Herm and Sark business is continuing while the Jersey branch closes.

Cimandis said earlier this week that “increasingly challenging trading conditions” including rising rent and shipping costs, were behind its decision to close down the Jersey side of its business.

However, despite saying the Guernsey business will be continuing to operate once the Jersey side closes, Cimandis’ premises in St Peter Port are listed for sale with the current rental lease ending in December.

Rock Commercial has the building that Cimandis is currently operating from listed for sale, with an asking price of £5,886,000.

The listing also contains details of the 15 year long lease that Cimandis has, which is due to expire on 24 December 2025

The southern portion of the building is also occupied by R&R Removals Limited on a five year sub-lease, running in tandem with Cimandis’ lease.

The listing has been online for a couple of months, before the closure of the Jersey branch was announced.

Express has asked Cimandis for clarity on this topic.

We asked whether or not the Bailiwick of Guernsey side of the business is at risk, if the business has found a new home, or if contract negotiations are ongoing. We’re currently awaiting comment.

Cimandis is understood to have been the only pan island business offering food distribution and sales.

It is one of very few food wholesalers in Guernsey, serving the other islands too.

Cimandis’ clients are understood to include restaurants, hotels, and other eateries.
