The deadline for answering a public survey on proposed private rental sector reforms has been extended to this Sunday, (9 February), to encourage more views to be shared.

The survey, initially launched back in December, seeks feedback on potential new rights and obligations for both landlords and tenants, covering areas like tenancy agreements, deposits, and notice periods.

The SoG rental reform survey guidance document is available online and states that in Guernsey’s rental sector “neither party has many legal rights or protections, and many do not feel empowered, or cannot afford, to take legal action”.

While “a good number of responses have been received”, the States hope that more will take part, citing that over a quarter of Guernsey’s population lives in private rentals.

“With over a quarter of Guernsey’s population living in the private rental sector, the survey deadline has been extended until Sunday 9th February to capture views from as many people as possible,” said a States spokesperson.

“If you have a view on tenancy agreements, deposits, minimum notice periods for ending a tenancy and other related topics, go to gov.gg/PRSRightsSurvey to have your say.”

The survey is online HERE. There’s also a guidance document available HERE.

It’s a piece of the larger Guernsey Housing Plan puzzle, designed to address the island’s housing challenges.
