The latest unemployment data has shown yet again that the majority of working age people in Guernsey are working.

The latest data released by the States shows that there was a small reduction in the number of jobseekers without work in Guernsey between May and June 2025, which is the latest data available.

There were 254 jobseekers without work at the end of June 2025, down 10 from the month before.

That figure represents just 0.8% of the working population of Guernsey.

By contrast, hundreds of jobs are available in Guernsey – with 123 advertised on the job centre website, and 80 advertised by the States itself, and more advertised by recruitment agencies.

Compared with the same period last year, the number of jobseekers without work in Guernsey has increased by 50, while the number of new claims has increased by 45.

The number of jobseekers in Guernsey did drop 10 between May and June this year though.

The number of jobseekers in Alderney with no work remained the same between May and June 2025 at 6 people.

The latest data released by the States also shows that the number of jobseekers in Guernsey who carried out some paid some work increased by just one person between May and June.

Of the 106 people who did some work while receiving unemployment support, 77 are women and 29 are men.

There were another 59 people on training schemes.

More men claim unemployment benefits with income support than women – but the number of women who do some part time work while claiming financial support from the States outnumbers the men.

More men than women are currently on States training programmes, which includes ‘Kickstart’, ‘Work2Benefit’, and other schemes.
