After collapsing into administration during the early days of the covid pandemic, the airline had not resumed services to or from Guernsey. Previously it had offered regular flights between the Channel Islands and the UK.
Having been founded in Jersey, under the name Jersey European Airways, it had been a regular sight in our skies for decades.
Renamed as British European in 2000 and then as Flybe two years later, the company grew to become the country’s largest regional and short haul airline.
A private equity firm purchased the airline in 2021, serving Belfast, Newquay, Avignon, Amsterdam and other routes, but not the Channel Islands.
Services took off last April but, this weekend, Flybe cancelled all flights as it went into administration, leaving thousands of passengers stranded in and out of the UK, and out of pocket.
