The Guernsey Nature Commission is looking for someone to work as an Assistant Ecologist Intern this summer, the second year the opportunity has been available.

The GNC says it’s a good chance for students studying nature, or recent graduates, to get some work experience.

The intern will help the Commission’s Ecologist with different tasks, including collecting information about nature, keeping records, and engaging with the public.

Last year’s intern, Pip Gallagher, said it was a great opportunity to learn about writing policies, collecting data, managing projects, going to government meetings, and would recommend it to anyone interested in a career related to the environment.

“I was lucky to be given many opportunities in this role to build my experience in policy writing, data collection, project management, attending governmental meetings, and conducting an interview with Rachel Scott – an absolute highlight!

“I would highly recommend anyone with an interest with an environment-related career to take on this opportunity. ”

The deadline for applications is Friday, June 6. Meanwhile the deadline for another role at the GNC is quickly approaching.

Last month the Guernsey Nature Commission announced it was seeking someone to take on the voluntary role of Chair of the Nature Commission Board of Directors.

The application process is still open for applications, with the GNC encouraging entries from someone with good leadership skills, and the ability to help guide the charity moving forward.

The job involves leading the board, making sure things are run properly and the charity has enough money, representing the Commission, and supporting the top manager.

The previous head, Martin Belcher had been in the role for two years and despite stepping down, he is still involved as a Director.

“We are looking for a committed and imaginative leader who shares our passion for the natural environment,” said Jessi Jennings, the CEO of the Nature Commission.

“Our next Chair will play a key role in steering the Nature Commission’s strategic direction and supporting our team to deliver real, lasting change for nature and communities.”
