The teenager was rushed to intensive care on 31 July 2020 after her body reacted badly to consuming MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy, at a party, which caused her to have a seizure.

She spent six days in a critical condition before waking up and beginning her journey of recovery. 

The incident is now referred to by police as “Operation Storm”.

“It is an investigation into the supply of controlled drugs following which a 16-year-old child spent several days in intensive care,” said Bailiwick Law Enforcement in its annual report for 2020.

“Eight arrests were made and this remains an ongoing investigation.”

The work has been overseen by a “specialised team of detectives” from The Public Protection Unit, which deals with a range of serious, complex crime and is actively involved in child and adult safeguarding.

“PPU deals with issues relating to child protection, neglect and abuse investigations, management of dangerous offenders,domestic abuse, rape and sexual assault including historic sex offences and the protection of vulnerable adults,” said BLE of its work. 

“Examples of such investigations undertaken by the Public Protection Unit include the possession and distribution of indecent images of children, serious physical assaults on persons under the age of 18, harassment and threats to kill and all allegations of sexual offences within a domestic setting.”
