However, the States of Guernsey are now contributing £250,000 ‘matched funding’ to the next phase of the project with the money intended to cover half the total cost of converting the Clubhouse’s roofspace into offices, which will be used by the Health Improvement Commission and the Guernsey Community Foundation.

The KGV is a charity and not-for-profit organisation, which offers a number of publicly accessible facilities including for a wide range of sports groups such as cricket, football, rugby and the Guernsey Sports Association for the Disabled. The KGV also accommodates a wide range of health, educational and social groups and houses the headquarters of brain injury charity Headway Guernsey.
With States funding adding to the ongoing redevelopment funds, it is anticipated that the KGV’s role and contribution will grow in all those areas.
The money will come from States funds set aside within the 2018 Budget, when the States agreed that the Policy & Resources Committee should have delegated authority to spend up to £250,000 from the Capital Reserve on projects from non-States organisations.
P&R has said the KGV redevelopment project demonstrates a genuine benefit to the Bailiwick which will enhance the quality of life for many people.
“This is a project that will clearly have a real benefit to the Island, from improving our physical and mental health, to offering yet more education, cultural and social opportunities,” said P&R President, Deputy Gavin St Pier. “It clearly aligns with the Future Guernsey Plan which drives the prioritisation of government policy and resources. We’re delighted to be able to support the redevelopment and while we know there’s plenty more still for the KGV team to do, we hope this contribution takes them forward another step.”
Jonathan Creasey, from the Friends of the KGV said; “We’re very grateful for the donation from the Policy & Resources Committee on behalf of the States of Guernsey. It shows there’s a real recognition of the wide range of community benefits the KGV provides for people of all ages and abilities.
“We also want to thank the community as a whole for getting behind this redevelopment as we’ve had lots of support and contributions from individuals and businesses.”
