“Vira is a friend of a friend and I wanted to raise money to try and help support her,” she said.
“I put a donation jar on the counter at Bouche where I work. We raised £150 through the donation jar and then an individual donated a further £100 for her.”

Vira, whose last name has not been given, has been unable to access medication as pharmacies in Ukraine are closed due to the war.
An online funding campaign has been launched for Vira to raise £2,000 for medication. Vira and her children are trying to reach Poland, where they hope to meet with friends to cross the border into the NATO country.
The children’s father has been unable to travel with them as all men aged 18-60 have been ordered to stay in Ukraine and fight against the Russian military.
Ms Bromane said she was grateful for the donations: “The generosity shown by the people of Guernsey is heartwarming and much appreciated”.

Ms Bromane is a St Peter Port douzenier and has encouraged other parish douzaines to display the Ukrainian flag.
“St Peter Port was the first douzaine to display the flag to show solidarity with Ukraine,” she said, “I think it would be great for the flag to be displayed in douzaines across the island.”
The Ukrainian flag has been hoisted to the memorial mast on St Julian’s roundabout to show support as the war continues.

Ms Bromane said it was important for islanders to have conversations about Ukraine.
“The donation jar in Bouche started a lot of conversations with customers about what is happening in Ukraine; it raised awareness as well as funds,” she said.
“It is nice to have those conversations because it is an issue that is very close to my heart and it is important to keep Ukraine in our thoughts.”
