Some of Guernsey’s transport options have a new look for the festive season, as the Health Improvement Commission aims to prevent Christmas drink drive incidents.

Created in partnership with local design agency Two Degrees North, and the Smile for Georgie Foundation, this year’s campaign looks to convey a clear and important reminder that too many people are still choosing to drive under the influence of alcohol.

Andrea Nightingale, the Substance Use Lead for HIC, said the annual figure of drink drivers is still too high.

“We know that there’s approximately 80 motorists that drink drive over a year in Guernsey and that’s 80 too many, as far as we’re concerned.

“It’s not only getting people to think about it, but also thinking about the consequences of what if I did drink and drive, and those consequences can be devastating.”

Both Stagecoach and Lambourne Taxis are showing their commitment to keeping our roads safer by featuring the campaign message on the back of their vehicles, with leaving your vehicle at home the clear message said Ms Nightingale.

“Don’t have your car if you’re going out and you know that you’re going to be drinking,” she said.

“The temptation of getting in it is key, it’s that temptation of having the car there. Make a plan, have the arrangements, get a lift into town, and then you won’t get in your car or on your bike, because it’s not there.”
