As Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez makes headway in her first week as P&R President, she’s already received a welcome and support from her counterpart in Jersey.
Deputy Lyndon Farnham yesterday wrote to Deputy de Sausmarez to extend his “warmest congratulations” on her “appointment as Chief Minister of Guernsey”.
That isn’t actually her title though but it is often used colloquially in lieu of the longer ‘President of the Policy and Resources Committee’.
Deputy Farnham is Chief Minister in Jersey because of his island’s ministerial system of government.
Despite that difference, the two islands have much in common, with Deputy Farnham highlighting the “opportunities and challenges” both face.
He wrote that he is “confident that through continued collaboration and mutual support, we can deliver real benefits for our communities and ensure a positive future for the Channel Islands as a whole”.
Deputy Farnham also wrote that Deputy de Sausmarez’s election as P&R President “marks a significant moment for the people of Guernsey”. She is the first woman elected in to the “important leadership role”.
Deputy Farnham said he looks forward to “working closely with you to strengthen the historic ties between our islands and to build on the spirit of friendship and cooperation that has underpinned our islands’ relationship”.
