The final round of counting saw Option C eliminated leaving A the clear winner with more than 50% of the overall vote. Round three had seen Option B knocked out. The 3,932 votes for B were then redistributed in the final round of voting, as people’s second option went to both the A and C camps.
Option A had come out on top in the first round of voting at the Island Wide Voting Referendum, with 5,304 votes, 37.45% of the total number of ballots. Option D got the least number ones, with 672, and was knocked out.
Option B was in third, with 3,486 votes, 24.62%, Option C in second, with 3,760, 26.55%, and option E fourth, 940, 6.64%.
45.1% of people on the electoral role voted in Guernsey first referendum, meaning the threshold to make the vote legally binding has been passed. Overall, 14,370 people voted.
The counters completed processing the postal votes first, of which they said they received just under 3,000, and conducted a reconciliation of all of the ballot votes from polling stations, and then announced the threshold was made.
