Guernseyman Tim Osbourne will be recording the video to his new song Train of Life, which was inspired by a conversation he had with a stranger.

“One afternoon last autumn, I was in town holding my three-and-a-half-year-old son, when an elderly lady came up to me and told me to enjoy holding him because one day I will pick him up, and that will be the last time I ever hold him, but that I won’t know it at the time,” said Mr Osbourne.

“That short encounter had quite an impact on me. After the last song I wrote for the film ‘Stirling’s War’ I was looking for some inspiration to write my next song and that inspiration came as a direct result of those few words that she said to me.”

Mr Osbourne said that the song is about life events: “I wanted to write about experiences that happen in our one-way, no-return journey through life and three of those experiences are reflected in the three choruses of the song.

“The first is about the excitement of your first love, then the realisation that your children grow up so fast and will one day leave home as adults. The third is about the sudden loss of a close friend or family member who you were taking to a few hours before.

“The elderly woman’s parting words that ‘you don’t know it at the time’ had the biggest impact on me and I managed to include them at the end of the song.”

Mr Osbourne will be recording the video for Train of Life in and around Alderney’s train, with the second half of the video to be filmed in Bluebell Woods in Guernsey.

“I wrote the song late last year for Emily Fern and it was recorded in February at Apocalypse Studio in Guernsey. We then had two months of logistical issues but are finally able to film the video and release the song,” said Mr Osbourne.

The song was recorded and produced by Mikey Ferbrache, also who produced Mr Osbourne’s previous song When I Call Your Name.

“The very talented Mickey will be cinematographer for the music video and also played both acoustic and electric guitar for the song,” said Mr Osbourne.

“I am on the piano and keyboard and beautiful vocals are provided by Emily Fern.”

Aurigny provided complementary flights to Alderney for the group
