The Corsaire de Sercq is currently out of service with a “major” two-month refit underway.

Isle of Sark Shopping said the work started earlier this month and should be finished in around a month’s time, ahead of the busier spring/summer season for passengers between Sark and Guernsey.

The 18 year old Corsaire de Sercq was purchased by Isle of Sark Shipping five years ago, and is now getting a repaint and some routine maintenance along with some improvement work to its engines.

Those upgrades include switching to modern FPT engines, which Sark Shipping says will offer improved efficiency and remote monitoring.

“The vessel’s previous engines were approaching the end of their service life, and this proactive upgrade will help reduce downtime and unplanned maintenance, ensuring a dependable service for years to come,” said the company.

The repaint is focusing on the hull and superstructure, which will protect the vessel from the elements as well as giving it a fresh and clean look.

The routine maintenance will fulfil requirements for the vessel’s classification survey.

Sark Shipping says the main goal of the refit is to ensure the long-term reliability and operational efficiency of the Corsaire de Sercq.

“This comprehensive overhaul is being carried out by experienced shipyard engineers and technicians, working alongside our own team and under the oversight of the vessel’s Master to help ensure everything remains on schedule.

“By securing the long-term future of Corsaire de Sercq, this investment will provide greater reliability and operational flexibility, helping us continue to serve the community with confidence. We look forward to welcoming passengers back on board the Corsaire de Sercq later in 2025.”
