Five years after Morgan McGlynn took his own life, his parents will be supported by Guernsey’s motorbike community at a memorial ride in his honour this weekend.
The 19-year-old was working as a Chef when he died in May 2020. His parents said at the time that the depression he was experiencing was heightened during the covid lockdown in place.
In the weeks after his death, Morgan’s parents raised more than £16,500 for Guernsey Mind – more than double their original target – to fund mental health awareness training.
Now they are holding a memorial ride out, to mark five years since Morgan’s death.
“17 May marks the five-year anniversary of Morgan’s passing, coinciding with this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, from 12 to 18 May,” said Morgan’s parents, Alison and Gordon.
“In memory of Morgan and to further the cause of mental health awareness, we would like as many people as possible to join us on a rideout on Sunday, 18 May 2025.

“Collections will be made for Guernsey Mind’s suicide prevention and care work, with representatives present at both the start and finish of the ride. All are welcome, and standard road rules apply.
“The first memorial rideout for Mogan in October 2020 attracted approximately 130 bikes, and we are hopeful that this number will be matched or surpassed. With any luck, the weather will be favourable.”
Members of the Greenman Motorcycle Club and Guernsey Bikers’ Group will be taking part this Sunday morning. Other motorcyclists, pedal and e-cyclists are welcome to join them.
The memorial ride will start from the Himalayan Kitchen at Guernsey Pearl at 11:00, and end at the Beach House at Pembroke.
The motorcyclists will head from Guernsey Pearl to Pembroke via L’Eree and town, while the cyclists will go via Vazon and L’Islet.
Participants are reminded that all motorbike riders must possess a valid licence and insurance. Bicycle riders under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
“Everyone is welcome, and please remember to follow all standard road rules,” say the organisers.
“Let’s ride together to make a difference.”

All money raised through the memorial ride for Morgan will benefit Guernsey Mind’s Suicide Prevention and Care programmes.
“Guernsey Mind is very grateful to Alison and Gordon for their support,” said Jo Cottell, Chief Executive of Guernsey Mind.
“Funds raised will contribute to the development of our suicide prevention & care programmes as well as supporting our suicide awareness training.”
The charity added, that the event “promises to be a day of remembrance and community support, demonstrating that together, positive change is possible”.
