Victoria Tower is a monument in St Peter Port, Guernsey. Erected in honor of a visit by Queen Victoria and her consort Prince Albert in 1846.

If you’re in Guernsey tomorrow morning you could hear a new siren sounding from Victoria Tower.

It’s going to be installed from 08:00 tomorrow morning with a test to follow once it has been craned in.

Once it is safely fitted, the familiar ‘warning’ siren will sound followed by the ‘all clear’ signal.

It’s estimated that the tests will be sounded during ‘late morning’.

Originally part of a 1937 warning system, the siren is now only used for commemorations such as Liberation Day and Remembrance Day.

A spokesperson for the States said the old siren was “of significant age, and had reached the end of its working life.”

The States Property Unit and Guernsey Museums have been working together to replace it.
