Prospective Co-op customers can now keep their number when switching mobile provider from JT.
The service known as Mobile Number Portability was originally due to come in from May, but regulators and providers across Guernsey and Jersey have worked together to make it available sooner for all providers.
Sure customers could already make the switch but now JT customers can too.
The Co-op said this means customers wanting to swap to its mobile service can make the switch without changing their phone number. That in turn removes the need to update contact details with other places such as your bank, doctor, or relatives and friends.
The Guernsey Competition Regulatory Authority pushed for the change to ensure there is more competition in the local market and that residents have a genuine choice between providers.
“Mobile phone markets are an essential part of islanders’ everyday lives and ensuring that markets remain competitive, and consumers have genuine choice, is an important part of our work,” said Michael Byrne, CEO of the GCRA.

“We are delighted the operators have responded to our intervention and delivered a solution ahead of the original timetable.”
The Co-op’s CEO, Mark Cox, said the new mobile service is part of the Co‑operative’s long‑standing commitment to supporting communities across the Channel Islands and number portability adds to that.
“This is a big day for our members and consumers,” he said. “Keeping your number might sound small, but it makes a big difference when you’re thinking about switching.
“We’re excited to welcome new customers to Coop Mobile and give more people the chance to benefit from our flexible, contract‑free plans, backed by a business that puts members first.”
