Deputy Neil Inder, President of the Committee, had told a Scrutiny hearing last month that him and other members of ED had been taken by surprise at the ferry providers decision to only run conventional ferries between the islands this winter.

Condor instead advised the Ferry Services Steering Group which comprises officers from Guernsey and Jersey – providing oversight of services – which is standard process.

An Economic Development spokesperson has now confirmed this group was briefed on the winter sailing schedule, but local officers did not inform the relevant politicians prior to its publication – noted as being “the usual process”.

They described it as “an unfortunate and unintentional oversight for which officers have apologised.

Deputy Inder’s response to the [Scrutiny Management Committee] was accurate.

Jersey’s Economy department also confirmed that the Government of Jerseywas aware of the way in which Condor would be meeting their operating agreement”.

Meanwhile, a Condor Ferries’ spokesperson said the confusion has “subsequently been discussed” with Deputy Inder.
