“The fatal four are considered the four most dangerous driving offences, and they without a doubt cause the most fatal or serious collisions on the road,” said Acting Chief Inspector, Tom Marshall.
“In 2022 it is well known that drinking and driving is totally unacceptable, and as a result, the offence is now somewhat rare, however the number of arrests we had to make for driving under the influence in the last four weeks was totally unacceptable.”

Over the course of the month Guernsey Police arrested 15 people for drink driving and handed out 21 fixed penalty notices for not wearing a seatbelt.
Six fixed penalty notices were handed out for driving while using a mobile phone and 14 people were stopped for speeding. Some of these people were caught driving at 75mph.
“While fixed penalty notices are issued every year for mobile phone usage and misuse of seatbelts when driving, we are concerned that these offences take place on a wider scale than is represented by the statistics,” said Acting CI Marshall.
“Any action that distracts you while driving makes you a risk to other road users.”
