The by-election was held on International Women’s Day – a complete coincidence but three out of the four of the candidates on the ballot paper were female.

The island’s Deputy Chief Executive, who is also female, read the results out at the Island Hall on Saturday evening.

Ms Cameron and Ms Taylor will now be sworn in by the island’s President at a future States Meeting.

They will serve on the States until 31 December 2026.

The States of Alderney consists of ten States Members elected for four years terms.

Half of the members are elected every two years so that the entire States is elected on a rolling basis, with regular changes.

The members are organised into four main committees: Policy & Finance CommitteeGeneral Services CommitteeEconomic Development Committee and Building and Development Control Committee. There are also numerous smaller committees.
