Dr Holland will be replaced by two anaesthetists – a married couple who will job share. They are moving to the island next month.

Dr Holland joined the MSG in 2004 from Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon, where she was Clinical Director for Theatre and Critical Care services.

She graduated from Nottingham University Medical School in 1983. After post-graduate training in anaesthesia and intensive care, she worked in several hospitals in the UK where she developed special interests in anaesthesia for maternity patients and eye surgery.

She said it was a privilege to live and work on the “beautiful island of Guernsey”.

Dr Holland said she had enjoyed working with “the wonderful people who make up the MSG – doctors, nurses, management and admin staff” and considered it a privilege “to serve the people of the island over the past 18 years”.

“I would like to thank the MSG and hospital staff with whom I have worked for making the job such a pleasure,” she said.

“I have often expressed an interest in working in a tea shop and I think the people skills should transfer pretty well. Keep a look out for me in that setting in the near future.”

The Chairman of the MSG, Dr Gary Yarwood, paid tribute to Dr Holland.

“Hilary has been a real asset to our anaesthesia team,” he said. “She’s very competent, not fazed by a challenge and very easy to get along with. A good colleague – she will be properly missed.”
