A paediatrician says she was “overwhelmed” by “the need for ADHD assessment” before a Guernsey GP launched a new private service.
Queens Road Medical Practice’s (QRMP) new ADHD assessment and care service for children and young people under 18 is led by Dr Neele Hamilton, and aims to address the gaps in local demand for both initial diagnoses and ongoing care.
According to the QRMP, a UK survey of over 10,000 children found ADHD affects roughly 3.62% of boys and 0.85% of girls, impacting attention, impulse control, and daily learning.
Dr Neele said: “Within the weeks of working at QRMP, I was overwhelmed with the need for ADHD assessment and continuity of care for children with suspected and confirmed ADHD.
“After seeing the difficulty patients and families go through, I am very keen to help and not only provide a thorough evidence-based assessment but also to provide ongoing support face-to-face in many happy and challenging years to come.”
QRMP says referrals are being accepted from parents, guardians, and healthcare professionals, and the service is open to inter-practice patients.
