The last listed fireworks event for this year’s Bonfire night celebrations was due to be held last night – with the GSPCA now asking for any final views on the matter to be shared using its surveys.
It’s estimated that more than 100 events were hosted over the past two weeks using fireworks, with many of them private.
The animal welfare charity has previously run a survey to gauge the impact of fireworks on local pets and wildlife with thousands of people responding last year.
Those responses included a call from a large number of people for stricter regulations on firework sales, including limiting events to public, organised displays only.
The vast majority, 81.29% of those completing the survey in 2024 said they believed current firework laws are simply not strict enough.
Now, the charity is again asking for responses to further its research.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said thankfully no injuries were reported in 2024, but the emotional and behavioral toll on animals is significant.
“Fireworks may be a celebration for some, but for many animals they are a source of fear and confusion,” he said.
“We’re asking islanders to help us monitor the impact again this year by completing our surveys.”
