Students from The Ladies’ College, the Sixth Form Centre, and Elizabeth College will be presenting their production of ‘Evita’ at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts next week.
Between them they have made the props, choreographed the shows, and will be performing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash hit musical, which tells the story of Eva Peron, whose husband, Juan Peron, became the President of Argentina in 1946.
Rising from humble beginnings, Eva worked her way from a life of hardship in the suburbs to radio star, to actress, to the First Lady of Argentina. ‘Evita’ celebrates and explores her complex character.
“As well as showcasing the wealth of talent of those students who are performing, it’s also a great opportunity for some of our students to take on leadership roles,” said Head of Drama at The Ladies’ College and Director of the show Maggie King.
“We have students who are Dance Captains, Choreographers and even Prop-Makers.”
Working alongside Ms King is a strong team of adults, including: Music Director Jean Owen (who will be conducting a live orchestra to accompany the show) and Assistant Director (and fellow member of the Drama Department) Lindsey Davies.
Ladies’ College pupil Megan H, who is 17 and plays Eva, said they’ve had fun amidst the hard work putting the show together.
“It’s nice to portray the more vulnerable side of Eva, as well as those more powerful scenes. I also enjoy working with people across the year groups, who I wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to mix with, especially in the big numbers where we are all working together and having fun.”
The Ladies’ College said it is delighted to be collaborating with other schools, with students from The Sixth Form Centre and Elizabeth College also taking on roles in the production.

The show is on from Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 March at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts, from 19:00 each evening.
