Probationary Sergeant (SCC) Peter Morley received the award at an event at La Villette Hotel. The fund-raising dinner was held by ‘T.S. Sarnia’ the cadets unit and hosted by the Officer in Charge of the unit, Sgt (SCC) Matt Bourgaize.

“Whilst the unit is rightly all about the cadets none of this can happen without the dedicated staff who volunteer,” said Lt (SCC) Philip Nicol-Gent.

Lt (SCC) Philip Nicol-Gent, RNR donated the trophy after stepping down as the Officer in Charge of TS Sarnia this January.

He was awarded for his “all-round contribution” to the unit and “its effectiveness in the previous year.”

Sgt Morley joined the unit in 2012 as a Cadet, rising to the rank of Cadet Sergeant. He was a Lieutenant-Governor’s Cadet from 2016-2017 before becoming a uniformed member of staff in 2018.

The staff at the Guernsey Sea and Royal Marines offer up on average 2,500 hours a year to the group. They help teach the cadets, maintain the boats and prepare for parades.

“I think it is very important that the contribution to the success of TS Sarnia by the staff who willingly volunteer their time is recognised,” said Lt Nicol-Gent.
