Terry Waite has been honoured for his services to charity.
While his involvement in the Guernsey Literary Festival is a more recent commitment, Sir Terry has been involved in numerous organisations over a number of decades.
The 84 is the co-founder and President of Hostage International, a charity which supports families of those taken captive.
This work followed his own period of captivity in Lebanon where he was held hostage for five years.
His work with the Church of England had led to his trip to Beirut to try and arrange the release of other hostages. He has continued to work with the Church since his release and is also President of Emmaus UK (for homeless people), and has been involved with Prison reform.
So delighted to see that Terry Waite has been honoured with a knighthood. We’re so proud to have him as honorary chairman of @GuernseyLitFest#gsylitfest
