The first seal to be rescued this year in Guernsey weighed just half her ideal weight, the GSPCA has said.
The grey seal pup – now named Avalanche – was found at Grande Rocques on Sunday 4 January, without a mother and weighing 20kg at about two to three weeks old.
Geoff George, GSPCA’s head of marine mammals, said Avalanche was “very dehydrated with a number of wounds” but was now “doing well”.
She is the fourth seal to be rescued in the past three weeks and joins fellow pups Glacier, Frosty and Blizzard.
Steve Byrne, GSPCA manager said all four pups were “very poorly” and underweight for their age, adding: “At around 2-3 weeks [we’d expect them to] be over 40kgs in weight.”

Mr Byrne said the pups were being cared for in the charity’s temporary seal pup area, while its new wildlife hospital was being built.
“We are at the start of the seal pup season and with the stormy weather this time of year we have no doubt there will be others needing our help and if you do see a seal in trouble please call us on 257261,” he added.
“In the last 14 years we have managed to rescue and release an incredible 45 back into local waters.”
